LIONS AND LIONESSES WELCOMING
INT'L 1ST VP KAJIT 'KJ' HABANANANDA - 4/12/1997
The Lions of District 308B were indeed honoured to have the International First Vice President Kajit Habanananda as its special guest. Fondly known as “KJ” in the LCI circle, he arrived at Sultan Abdul Aziz Shah Airport on 4/12/1997 at 9.00pm. An entourage of Lions from Selangor and other states rolled out a red carpet welcome and checked him into the plush Imperial Hotel at KLCC.

On the following day, PCC Dr Chin YH and some Lions buddies had breakfast with KJ. Later, they ‘teed off’ a round of golf at the KL Golf & Country Club as KJ was known to be an avid golfer. An excellent way of getting to know Kajit.

The official programme started with a ‘Meet the Lions Session’ over tea. Many areas of Lionism were discussed and queries were duly answered by KJ. A press conference ensued after this session.

DIALOGUE WITH LIONS AND LIONESSES

The conference allowed the Lions’ fraternity to gain extra mileage in highlighting their movement’s noble contributions to society. Members of the press were also very impressed with the wit and easygoing manner of the LCI 1st Vice President. KJ, who hailed from Bangkok, has always stressed the necessity and importance of community service and fellowship through club activities as well as close support for the Lions Clubs International Foundation. He was a recipient of the Ambassador of Goodwill Award, the highest and most prestigious award presented by LCI for noteworthy service. In fact, KJ rose to the pinnacle of the LCI hierarchy as its President in 1998!

PRESS CONFERENCE WITH LOCAL MEDIA

A gala banquet was held at the Grand Ballroom of the Imperial Hotel in Kajit’s honour. Some 250 Lions and Lionesses were in attendance. Thirteen proud Lions received the prestigious Melvin Jones Plaque from KJ.  He also did a digital launch of the District 308B Home Page, allowing us access to the four corners of the world. Soon after, the Lions had an enjoyable time chatting and taking photos with the genial 1st VP. The event ended just before midnight.

The following day, Lion Kajit was off again for more golf at the Bukit Kiara Golf and Country Club. In the evening, PID Dato’ Douglas Lee hosted a private dinner in his honour at the Bankers’ Club, Kuala Lumpur.

On the final day, Lion Kajit was treated to a sumptuous ‘Bak Kut Teh’ breakfast at the famous Imbi Road outlet; thereafter, our entourage escorted him to the airport to bid him “Sawadee krap”.

The function was organized by Region 6 Chairman Wong Chooi Chen and her hard-working committee. The programme was elaborate and fulfilled LCI’s objective while allowing KJ to relax and partake in his favourite pastime.
