Conferment MJF to Raja Permaisuri of Perak

9th June 1998 will forever be etched in my heart as I was given the rare privilege to present the “Melvin Jones Fellowship" (MJF) to Her Royal Highness, the Raja Permaisuri of Perak, Tuanku Bainun Binti Mohd. Ali. Tuanku Bainun is renowned for her immense contribution to many charitable foundations for the less fortunate. The Melvin Jones Fellowship, named after the founder of Lions International is the highest distinction accorded to recipients in recognition of their contribution to humanity.
The Lions Club of Kinta hosted a big tea party for the underprivileged at the posh Syeun Hotel to commemorate this special occasion. The ceremony was steeped in royal tradition as His Royal Highness, the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Muhibbuddin Shah ibni Almarhum Sultan Yusuff Izzuddin Shah Ghafarullahu-lah who had been awarded earlier, was present to witness the conferment. The audience ravished the golden opportunity to witness and celebrate Sultan Azlan Shah's birthday with a cake-cutting ceremony. Daulat Tuanku! Daulat Tuanku! Daulat Tuanku!
Among those present were some 300 state dignitaries, Lions, Lionesses, and representatives from other service organisations.
